Indonesia is making a groundbreaking move in its carbon market. H.E. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Special Envoy for Energy and Environment appointed by President of Indonesia, H.E. Prabowo Subianto, announced a major shift during his speech at the ESG Sustainability Forum 2025 on January 31, 2025, at Menara Bank Mega, Jakarta. Indonesia has been the long awaited market to unlock vast potential in forestry and nature-based solutions (NBS). This development signals the nation’s readiness to embrace global participation in its carbon trading landscape.

Recognizing the urgent need to further open the market, H.E. Hashim stated in his speech¹:
“Menteri Kehutanan dan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup merekomendasi kepada pemerintah, ke presiden agar perdagangan karbon dalam negeri dibuka untuk pelaku-pelaku international dan verificators seperti Verra, Gold Standards, atau sebagainya itu boleh dipake sebagai acuan di dalam negeri. "
