As Indonesia strengthens its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and targets net-zero emissions by 2060, aligning national carbon policies with international standards has become increasingly critical. At this pivotal moment, Fairatmos, a leading climate technology company focused on high-quality Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), in partnership with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), hosted the highly anticipated offline edition of AtmosTalk on June 23, 2025, at Seribu Rasa Gunawarman, Jakarta.
This exclusive hybrid session welcomed more than 40+ key stakeholders in person and over 300 online participants, reflecting growing interest in the future of Indonesia’s Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) and the expanding role of NBS in global carbon trading.
A Post-MRA Era: Aligning with International Carbon Standards
A major highlight of the event was the discussion around the recently formalized Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and Gold Standard, one of the world’s leading voluntary carbon standards. This landmark agreement opens the door for the adoption of international methodologies and verification systems in Indonesia’s domestic carbon projects.
Speakers also addressed future MRAs currently in development, including efforts to establish agreements with other international standards and national carbon registries. Such alignment is expected to enhance project credibility, attract more foreign investment, and position Indonesia as a trusted player in the global carbon credit supply chain.
This direction echoes the policy stance of Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Special Envoy for Energy and Environment, who advocates for the integration of international verifiers into Indonesia’s carbon market ecosystem. As a result, interest from international climate financiers and carbon buyers, particularly from the UK and Asia, continues to rise.
