Collaborating for Carbon Market Integrity: Fairatmos Joins National Workshop on Carbon Trading in Bali
News

Last week in Bali, Fairatmos CEO Natalia Rialucky joined the Workshop Sinergi Penguatan Ekosistem Perdagangan Karbon, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH/BPLH). The event brought together policymakers, regulators, and market players to strengthen Indonesia’s carbon market governance.
Fairatmos’ participation was particularly notable as it was the only carbon project developer invited for recognition of the company’s growing role in bridging policy frameworks with practical project development on the ground.
Strengthening Indonesia’s Carbon Market
The Bali workshop convened representatives from ministries, regional governments, the Indonesia Carbon Exchange (Bursa Karbon Indonesia), verification and validation bodies, and international partners. Discussions focused on aligning national strategies for carbon trading and ensuring that Indonesia’s carbon market continues to develop with integrity, transparency, and global credibility.
Key themes from the event included:
-
Enhancing the national carbon registry system (SRN) to improve safeguards, transparency, and market trust.
-
Establishing Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) with international standards such as Verra, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo, and GCC.
-
Scaling both compliance and voluntary markets to expand high-quality carbon projects and reliable carbon credits.
-
Strengthening supporting mechanisms such as carbon tax, cap-and-trade, and clear legal frameworks for carbon trading.
Aligning with National Climate Commitments
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 31.89% independently and up to 43.20% with international collaboration by 2030. These targets will be further outlined in the Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), scheduled for submission to the UNFCCC in September 2025. Notably, this NDC will also include the maritime sector for the first time, signaling Indonesia’s broader commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions.
Fairatmos’ Role
As the sole carbon project developer present, Fairatmos provided the perspective of practitioners working directly with landowners, communities, and stakeholders. CEO Natalia Rialucky emphasized the importance of ensuring integrity and scalability in carbon projects so that every carbon credit generated contributes meaningfully to both national targets and global carbon offset demand.
Fairatmos’ participation highlighted the critical role of developers in turning policies into action, ensuring that Indonesia’s carbon trading ecosystem not only drives emissions reductions but also delivers tangible social and environmental benefits.
Toward a Carbon Neutral and Zero Emission Future
The Bali workshop demonstrated Indonesia’s readiness to strengthen its carbon market and position itself as a credible player in the global green economy. With effective governance, international alignment, and collaboration between government, regulators, and developers like Fairatmos, the path toward a Carbon Neutral society and Zero Emission future becomes clearer.
