The transition to clean and sustainable energy is vital for ASEAN’s sustainable development, and the inaugural Canada-ASEAN Energy Transition Summit marked a significant step forward. Hosted by the Canada-ASEAN Business Council on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, this first-of-its-kind event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to address the funding challenges and opportunities in ASEAN’s energy transition journey.

Fairatmos CEO, Natalia Rialucky Marsudi, contributed to the discussions in the second plenary session titled "The Role of Investments and Sustainable Finance to Close ASEAN’s Energy Transition Funding Gap." Natalia shared her perspective as both the Founder of Fairatmos and Deputy Chair of the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets (AACM), reflecting on the region’s collective responsibility to achieve Paris Agreement targets. Natalia highlighted the potential of innovative financing solutions, such as green bonds and blended finance, to close the funding gap, stressing the importance of knowledge-sharing among ASEAN nations.

The session featured esteemed speakers, including Eugene Wong, CEO of the Sustainable Finance Institute of Asia; Rana Karadsheh-Haddad, Managing Director for Infrastructure at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ); and Joseph Lacson, Chief Investment Officer of AboitizPower, moderated by Vincent Joli-Coeur, Chairman of Asia Pacific, National Bank of Canada.

Together, they explored how to overcome barriers to mobilizing private capital, create investor-friendly policies, and ensure the integrity of green finance initiatives tailored to ASEAN’s needs. The summit underscored the critical role of sustainable finance in ASEAN’s energy transition strategy, reaffirming the region’s commitment to innovative partnerships and impactful solutions.
